This year, recruitment event Megarekry will include a new twist – The Megarekry App

Blog Business Vantaa

The brand-new digital tool helps job seekers and employers find each other more effectively. It was developed by Business Vantaa’s Full Stack Development Intern Ayokunle Ogunbiyi, who is also a graduate student at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Megarekry 2026 takes place on October 29 in Shopping Center Myyrmanni.

The annual Megarekry events attract thousands of visitors and provide employers with significant visibility. However, feedback shows that turning those encounters into meaningful matches still can be challenging. At a previous event, 58% of jobseekers reported that they did not find a single suitable job opportunity, and many found navigating the event and identifying relevant employer stands difficult and time-consuming. This highlights the need not only for recruitment events, but also for smarter ways to connect people with opportunities and help them find the employers most relevant to their skills and ambitions.

Ayokunle Ogunbiyi started with two problems at hand: making it easier for attendees to find the right stands in a crowded venue and helping them find out which of the many companies actually have openings that fit them. This year, 48 companies have registered for the event, which means that navigating the event and identifying opportunities that match personal interests, skills and goals is not easy. He started working on a web app that would solve both problems.

What kind of app is it?

User-friendliness is at the heart of the solution. Attendees do not need to download an app, create an account or sign in. The application is accessible directly through a web browser and is available in multiple languages, making it easier for people from diverse backgrounds to participate and engage with confidence.

While the first version now focuses on Megarekry, the concept has wider potential. Future development could include multilingual guidance, more advanced job matching and accessibility features that make recruitment events more welcoming for all participants.

Attendees can browse the full list of participating companies and see what each is offering, so they walk in with a plan instead of wandering the floor.

What are the benefits of the app?

The new web application helps visitors navigate the event and identify opportunities that match their interests, skills and goals. By answering a short questionnaire, attendees receive personalised recommendations of relevant employers and job opportunities. The app features company profiles with filtering: every participating company has a profile page, and filters let attendees quickly find a specific company or narrow the list to what interests them.

An integrated digital map then guides attendees directly to the appropriate stands, and they avoid having to progress from stand to stand without proper guidance. The goal is simple: to make it easier for attendees to find relevant job matches, reduce barriers to participation and create a more welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors.

Ogunbiyi describes the advantages in these words: “The app lets attendees prepare before they arrive. They can browse the full list of participating companies and see what each is offering, so they walk in with a plan instead of wandering the floor. That helps manage expectations and saves time on the day.”

The principles behind the work

Vantaa is Finland's most multilingual city. The City's strategy recognises diversity as a strength and commits to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in working life, regardless of their background, language or personal characteristics. Equally, Vantaa has a responsibility to help employers access the talent they need to grow, innovate and remain competitive. The new digital tool developed for Megarekry supports both goals by helping jobseekers and employers find each other more efficiently.

The project reflects Vantaa's broader commitment to inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunities. Labour markets are becoming increasingly multilingual. Multilingual talent brings expertise, networks and perspectives that support business growth, innovation and internationalisation. To fully benefit from these strengths, employers and public services need tools and practices that recognise the reality of a diverse workforce. As a city, Vantaa wants to lead by example. If we want workplaces to become more inclusive and multilingual, our own services and events must reflect those same values.

Takeaways

We are now waiting for Megarekry to begin and will greatly appreciate feedback from attendees.

In the meantime, Ogunbiyi shares his experiences.  “Beyond the technical growth, this project gave me a look at how work life functions in a Finnish workplace, and at what goes on behind the scenes in a city to deliver good services to its residents. I got to work with a great, enthusiastic team, and I've grown not just as a developer but as a professional.”
