Wholesale and Retail in Vantaa

Wholesale and retail is a major employer in Vantaa. At the end of 2022 the highest number of jobs were in wholesale and retail (19% of all jobs). Furthermore, wholesale and retail industry had the second most growth in terms of the number of new jobs being created in Vantaa (750 new jobs in 2022).  

Vantaa is an attractive area for retail. Vantaa’s industry landscape is characterised by a comprehensive grocery and everyday item store network with multiple vibrant hubs of retail. Vantaa also draws purchasing power from neighbouring municipalities.  

There are many lively hubs of retail in Vantaa

The major hub for retail is the international Helsinki Airport located in Aviapolis. Aviapolis and Helsinki Airport together contribute up to 4% to Finland’s GDP. Aviapolis is Finland's fastest growing center for work and enterprise, and the Helsinki Airport has over 15 million passengers passing through annually, creating lucrative opportunities for retail.  

Main centres for retail in Vantaa are Aviapolis, Tikkurila and Myyrmäki. Retail has concentrated especially in the shopping centres located in these regions, Jumbo-Flamingo in Aviapolis, Dixi and Tikkuri in Tikkurila and Myyrmanni in Myyrmäki. Jumbo is the largest shopping centre in Finland by sales and the second largest by leasable area. Tikkurila also has a notable concentration of street level shops.  

There are also other hubs for retail such as Petikko-Varisto, Tammisto, Porttipuisto, Koivuhaka and Petas that primarily consist of specialty goods shops.  

Vantaa is also in on the trend of the increase in online shopping. A new online grocery order collection center, that is the largest in Finland and one of the largest in Europe, has been opened in Vantaa by HOK-Elanto.
