Controlling energy consumption with real-time monitoring
Want to know exactly how much electricity different appliances consume in real time? Now it's possible.
The City of Vantaa is piloting a real-time device-specific electricity monitoring service developed by eWatt Smart Power Systems Oy. The monitoring solution reveals the actual energy needs of the buildings, and identifies the appliances that are generating unnecessary consumption.
The City of Vantaa is experimenting with the eWatt-developed device-specific energy consumption measurement in two locations: the Vantaa Vocational College Varia and the Tikkurila Sports Hall.
Instead of traditional energy consumption measurements, the service delves into equipment-specific data and analyses consumption profiles using AI and machine learning models.
In practice, this means:
- The energy consumption of each appliance can be isolated and analysed separately.
- Consumption anomalies are detected immediately, so that any faults or energy losses can be addressed immediately before they cause expensive costs or persist for a long time.
The technology is particularly useful for
businesses and property owners,
who want to improve their energy efficiency
and reduce their costs.

The technology can be used in all kinds of buildings, but it is particularly useful:
- In buildings and offices: monitoring on a site-by-site basis helps to reduce and detect unnecessary consumption and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
- In the public sector: municipalities, schools and hospitals can save large amounts of money by identifying and optimising their energy use.
- In industrial plants: optimising energy management improves the efficiency of production processes and reduces unnecessary costs.
Smart Power monitoring keeps track of the
actual consumption of different devices,
which enables smarter and more economical
energy use in buildings.

What are the benefits of Smart Power monitoring?
- Accuracy: device-specific monitoring reveals the actual situation of energy use, allowing automation to be more accurately adjusted.
- Cost savings: when we know what things are worth changing, the changes are real solutions, not guesswork.
- Predictive maintenance: the system shows anomalies in equipment-specific consumption, which helps prevent equipment failure or reveals the need for maintenance.
- Sustainability: less wasted energy means a smaller carbon footprint and, in particular, lower electricity and transmission bills.
From the customer's point of view, it is simple to start using the service. Smart Power monitoring is connected directly to the electricity meter and immediately starts collecting real-time data on the electricity consumption of each appliance in the property or industrial plant.
